How do we support our students with reading and writing disabilities? How can we
encourage truly active and independent participation in reading programs where students must not only read text, but also provide a written response? Dragon NaturallySpeaking is technology that can be an amazing tool for these students by turning voice into text with up to 99% accuracy. This product allows a student to speak directly to their computer thereby generating text on the screen in what may very well be the first time some students are able to independently and confidently create text in Word, enter search terms into Google, create a PowerPoint slide, or any number of the myriad of tasks that have become an integral part of the contemporary student's day. The process is amazingly simple and student friendly:
The user wears a headset fitted with a microphone
The headset connects to the computer
The computer has the Dragon program loaded onto it
The Dragon toolbar appears and the Dragon is told to 'wake up'
The user speaks into the microphone and the text appears
